September is National Sewing Month. To celebrate, OttLite is highlighting our newest floor lamp, the Ultimate 3-in-1 Craft Lamp. An updated version of our 3-in-1 Craft Lamp, the Ultimate 3-in-1 Craft Lamp is a versatile magnifying lamp that converts from floor lamp to a table lamp or a clamp-on lamp depending on what works best for you.
Product Manager Kelly Martelli has worked at OttLite for over 11 years and has helped bring a wide variety of OttLite lamps to market. We spoke with her about the development of this new lamp and how it will help out anyone who needs to see details clearly and colors accurately.
OttLite already had a 3-in-1 Craft Lamp - why create another? We’ve had tremendous success with the original 3-in-1 but it’s been on the market for over 10 years. Since that time, LED lighting has really taken off so we incorporated top quality LEDs in the magnifier attachment to enhance the user experience.
What did the product team want to bring with this update? We like to joke that the original 3-in-1 is our ‘king of the hill’ lamp. At the time of its design, no other lamp in our line offered so much. So our goal with the Ultimate 3-in-1 was to figure out what improvements we could make that would really benefit the user while still keeping what made the original 3-in-1 Craft Lamp special. I think we made some great improvements.
What new features were included in the redesign? We incorporated top quality LEDs in the magnifier attachment to help enhance the user experience. Now the user has a crisp, bright light right where they look at things up close. We also extended both the clip and magnifier goosenecks by an additional 4”. Another upgrade is the conveniently located power outlet integrated into the center of the lamp.
Is there a specific crafter who the Ultimate 3-in-1 is ideal for? We’ve found that all types of crafters benefit from the light power and the versatility of the design. Since the light converts from a floor lamp to a table lamp to a clamp lamp, it fits anywhere or at any type of work area!
What’s your favorite feature about the Ultimate 3-in-1? I think the LEDs that were added to the magnifier were great addition. If we had used cheap LEDs the lighting would appear blueish or yellowish in color and a poor design can cast ‘hot spots’. OttLite takes the time to make sure we're using high quality LEDs so the customer has a smooth, uniform and pleasant light output. While the original 3-in-1 has a great optical grade magnifier, with the Ultimate 3-in-1 it has that same great magnifier with super bright lighting all the way around to see the small details even
better.
What’s your favorite thing about being on the product team? I really enjoy being part of a team to help bring some great products to market. Seeing people use the lamps we’ve developed to help them create such great things - it's very satisfying.
