Eye Yoga: Exercises to Ease Eyestrain

Posted by Alisha

Go ahead, roll your eyes. It’s actually an eye yoga exercise that’s good for your eyes and a remedy for eyestrain!

Eye yoga exercises like eye rolling, stretching and massaging increase circulation to tired, strained eyes to ease eye aches and pains.

What is Eyestrain Anyway?

3 out of 4 people experience eyestrain daily while doing everyday activities like reading and staring at computer screens and other digital devices. In this digital world, we rely on our eyes to keep us connected, and it takes a toll on them.

Like any muscles, eyes get tired and fatigued when used for long periods of time. Symptoms of eyestrain include itching, burning and soreness of the eyes. It can even cause blurred vision and headaches.

So, what can you do to ease the eyestrain you’re feeling from working behind a computer screen all day? One thing you can do right now is exercise your eye muscles with some eye yoga.

Find Your Eye Yoga Flow

Ready to try it?

First, get your eyes relaxed and ready by closing them for 20-30 seconds.

When you’re ready, start the eye yoga sequence with an eye stretching exercise to warm up those eye extraocular muscles. Keep your head still throughout the exercise. Remember, this is eye yoga.

Eye Yoga Exercise #1: The Stretch

1.   Look straight ahead and all the way up.

2.   Count 2 seconds, then look all the way down.

3.   Count 2 seconds. Then look to the extreme left.

4.   Repeat and look to the extreme right.

5.   Now you have to move your eyes to the four diagonal corners (you may feel tight stretches in your eyes which is a good thing). Begin with looking to the extreme top-left corner, bottom-right, top-right and end with bottom-left for one whole cycle.

6.   Repeat the cycle for one minute.

Eye yoga isn’t the only thing you can do to see and feel better. Using a natural daylight lamp from the OttLite Wellness Series can reduce eyestrain by up to 51 percent!

Use Natural Lighting for More Eyestrain Reduction

Naturally, eyes work best when exposed to the natural light of the sun. It has a balanced spectrum of color that’s easy on the eyes.

Typical LED lighting is unbalanced, which forces your eye muscles to work hard to adjust and fill in gaps, causing eyestrain.

How do you get healthier, more natural lighting indoors?

Researchers and engineers at OttLite worked for two years to develop natural daylight LED lighting technology that comes as close to the sun’s balanced spectral output as possible.

This technology powers the OttLite Wellness Series. These natural daylight lamps are proven to reduce eyestrain 51 percent better than the top 20 best-selling LED lamps on the market.

So, whether you’re working at a computer in your office or feasting your eyes on a recipe in the kitchen, using a reduced eyestrain lamp like The Glow LED Desk Lamp from OttLite’s Wellness Series will help you do it longer and more comfortably.

And that’s nothing to roll your eyes at.
