How to Adjust Your Light's Color Temperature to Ease Winter Blues

Posted by Jessica

Do you struggle with low energy and feeling down during the winter season? It’s common for dark winter days to bring on the winter blues. The decrease in sunlight may disrupt your body's internal clock (circadian rhythm) and lead to seasonal depression.

How can you help your internal clock get back on track? Up the color temperature on your lighting during the day. Bright natural daylight lighting that matches the spectral output of sunlight, such as OttLite ClearSun®, stimulates the production of serotonin which improves mood and increases energy levels. Exposure to bright natural light within the first hour of waking up each day is especially important for regulating your internal clock. In the evening, it’s helpful to use soft, yellow, sunset-like lighting, which signals your body to begin producing melatonin to promote healthy sleep.

To help promote wellbeing and a healthy sleep-wake cycle, many OttLite Wellness Series lamps, like the Entice with Wireless Charging shown here, feature three color temperature modes so you can adjust your lighting based on the time of day, and your mood and energy levels.
