Fight Fall Fatigue with Light Therapy

Posted by Jessica

Darker days are on the way as we get ready for the “fall back” time change. While you may be excited to sneak in an extra hour of sleep when the clocks fall back, you could feel extra groggy on Monday morning. The fall back time change can cause significant fatigue as it disrupts your circadian rhythm — your body’s internal clock.

To prepare your body for the time change and reduce fall fatigue, gradually shift your sleep schedule for the days leading up to the time change. Aim to go to sleep 15 minutes later each night, or adjust your AM alarm to wake up 15 minutes later each morning, until you’ve made it to the one-hour mark.

To fight fall fatigue after the time change when darker evenings get you down, start your day with light therapy. Exposure to natural daylight in the morning helps you maintain a healthy circadian rhythm by stimulating hormones and neurotransmitters in your brain that make you feel happier and more energetic. Make the OttLite ClearSun® LED Light Therapy Lamp part of your morning routine - it closely replicates the sun’s natural light spectrum to bring the benefits of natural daylight indoors.

As fall turns to winter, light therapy can be used to alleviate symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), also known as the “winter blues.” Using the rejuvenating power of natural daylight, the OttLite ClearSun® LED Light Therapy Lamp can help enhance mood, energy levels and even sleep quality.
