5 TIPS to ‘Lighten’ Up Your Electric Bill

Posted by Marissa

Electric bills usually increase during the summer. This summer, consider these five tips and enjoy the savings!

1.Consider using power strips for appliances and electronics. Power strips down when not in use to prevent them from drawing unneeded electricity.

2. Change your old incandescent light bulbs to energy efficient bulbs. The cost may seem higher up front, but in the long run savings add up!

3.Contact your local energy provider to enroll in free energy saving  incentives, rebates or programs, such as Energy Planner SM. Your electric company can install a  simple device in your home that regulates functioning of the most energy-consuming appliances such as the AC, the electric water heater and the pool pump. Energy saving programs may vary by community, but be sure to check in what is available to you.

4. Consider using natural ventilation. For example, If you live in a climate where it cools off at night, turn off your cooling system and open your windows while sleeping. When you wake in the morning, shut the windows and blinds to capture the cool air.

5.When cooking in the oven, turn if off several minutes before food is fully cooked. Make sure to keep door completely shut so that enough heat stays inside until your meal is fully cooked.

Enjoy, as you see how your Electric Bill gets ‘lighter”!
