Crafting The Perfect Baby Shower

Posted by Marissa

It is very exciting to plan parties. I especially love to plan a Baby Shower whenever there is baby on its way! The whole family gets super excited and everyone wants to welcome the new baby with the best. By spending less money in the party, you can assure the baby will be showered will all he needs for his long waited arrival!

This does not mean you have to compromise quality or style. I’m sharing here some special ideas that I used to plan my sister’s Baby Shower. Hope they help and inspire!

Instead of a traditional guest book, we put a clear bowl, cardstock     and markers. Guests wrote “dos” and “dont's” tips for the new parents. We found a matching photo album to slide them as keepsakes and we put a cute baby poem in the space provided for the cover photo.

For centerpieces, we used clear containers and filled them up with theme-colored edibles...

They were a Hit! They not only decorated nicely and fed people, but encouraged all guests to mingle in order to try the treats on all the tables.

The main table was decorated with homemade marshmallow favors, prizes and off course— The cake!

For prizes, we wrapped up theme colored coffee mugs and filled them with specialty coffee bags. We made the table cover top from   Kraft paper and the bottom ruffle was store bought. The combination of  materials and textures gave the table décor much more character.

Gift Table Tip: We told the guests to wrap up their gifts in the theme colors, so the gift table would match too...

I know, I know! I haven’t said anything about the cake….

Well I have to say, it was a combination of techniques we used to come up with this cutie.

We iced the cake in buttercreme and decorated it with rolled fondant. The topper was previously made out of gum paste, and yes…..It was all edible!

The cupcakes, let me say, are my favorite, and are pretty simple to make. Just ice the cupcakes with a small spatula,  take a round vanilla wafer and put half a marshmallow below it. Cover up the marshmallow with rolled fondant. Give the fondant a slight fall, to make it look like a cozy blankie.

Incorporating all these great ideas made the baby shower go off without a hitch. It was unique and memorable and was a special time for all who attended. We don’t know what we would have done without our Ottlite Lamp! It helped us continue creating without guessing on colors and was soft on our tired eyes.
