Road Trip Notebook

Posted by Autumn

Summer is fast approaching! Some of my dearest summer vacation memories are of the annual road trips my mother and I took together. We drove from Florida to Vermont to spend a week with my grandparents. We delighted in small towns, back roads, and all the adventures a good road trip can bring. I used to tape postcards of each state into my journal and kept a detailed log of what roads we took, where we ate and shopped, and what sights we saw. When I saw this project on Dollar Store Crafts, I  was [Read More...]

T-Shirt Necklace Craft

Posted by Autumn

How many old T-shirts do you have in your closet? How about your dresser drawer--the one you never open for fear of a printed-cotton tee explosion? Yeah, we thought so. T-shirts are kind of like those fuzzy Tribbles from the original Star Trek. You get one at a marathon or a concert and it seems harmless, but the next thing you know you've got dozens of them filling up random drawers, spare closets, and boxes marked TO DONATE.So, what to do with all your past-prime T-shirts? If you're [Read More...]

Fond Memory Photo Frames

Posted by Autumn

There are certain objects that, having outlived their original purpose, continue to enchant and inspire. I’m thinking of things like old keys, watch cogs, vintage postcards, and glass jars. Especially glass jars.Walk through any flea market, garage sale, or antique store and you’re bound to find a small—or not-so-small—collection of mayonnaise jars, jelly jars, pickled beet jars…you get the idea. There’s something really magical about that smooth, clear container. So many possibilities, so [Read More...]

Low-tech letters

Posted by Autumn

When was the last time you wrote a letter? Not email, not an IM, not a Facebook wall post. I mean a real, tactile, pen-and-paper letter? The art of the personal letter used to be taught to young boys and girls in grammar school—now it’s about as common as making macramé hanging baskets for indoor plants.  Which is a real shame, because who doesn’t love getting a letter in the mail? And really, don’t you think the postman gets bored of delivering Valu-Paks and cable bills? I would. With those [Read More...]
