"Like a Surgeon" Fly Tying With OttLite Posted by Marissa

I've said it once, and I will say it again...it is such a blast to learn about all the unique ways people are using OttLite's to do what they love longer. This week we were sent a video from Tim Flagler, in NJ, who uses his OttLite to create unique and detailed fly ties. Although fly tying is not my area of expertise, while watching this video, I marveled at the craftsmanship of what Tim was doing. It truly is an art form. Tim Flagler says that if you want to be a great fly tier, you need to think like a surgeon, using much of the same preparation and forethought. “If you start to think like a surgeon, these thing become very obvious. First of all, like a surgeon, you absolutely need to see what you are doing, and this requires plenty of light. Ideally, you also want the correct quality of light.”



The Lamp Tim used is the OttLite Flex Arm Plus Lamp which allows you to  attach the sturdy clamp to most flat surfaces or use the weighted base (included). It is a great multipurpose lamp that also works well for crafting.
